This was an assignment we did in class where we were supposed to draw only the highlights of the bottle. We did a similar assignment with paint in art two, but I found it a bit easier this time. I like how adding the colored pencils showed more values and also more reflections made the bottle look more realistic than it would have if it was just black and white. Although I'm proud of the outcome, I look forward to learning more about this technique of white pencil on black paper, and hopefully, I'll get better at it.

Book Carving
I developed this design first by choosing a book: Battle of the Labyrinth. Because of the title, I decided to make a labyrinth-like design. It was challenging to make it look like a real labyrinth, and I don't think it really does, but I'm happy with the way it turned out. It was also challenging to make the values look like they're going back. Adding blue to the green colors helped a lot. Also using brown and yellow added dimension.

Mixed Media
I showed amusement in this piece because horses make me really happy and I used a photograph of me with my cousins horse as a reference. It was fun to use the mixed media; I used water color for the background and acrylic for the girl. Also, magazine clips of hair for the horse, yarn for the scarf, and tissue paper for the coat. I really liked doing the visual journaling but I didnt really use the techniques I learned doing that for this project. It was kind of chalenging get all the different hair colors for the horse but it was worth it in the end because the values in the hair add a lot to the piece over all.

Portrait
I decided to do a portrait of my sister because she is a role model to me and she's recently gone to college, so I miss her a lot. For the material, I used yarn that I used to make bracelets out of. I was just looking around my house thinking of what to use and I found a huge bag of yarn, so that's why I used it. The yarn kind of connects to my sister because she used it to make bracelets for us and her friends. I took some risks by using different colors of yarn to show different values.
Sticky Situation
My ideas for "Sticky Situation" were, for the most part, pretty simple and basic, but none of the ideas I came up with interested me enough to create. So I thought of things that I would enjoy painting and that's how I came up with the sky. I thought of what to put in the sky, and remembered how sad I was when I was little and accidentally let go of a balloon. The repetition came through in the different balloons. I used acrylic because I knew I would be able to get rich colors from it.

Up Close And Personal
1. Upclose and Personal was our theme. How did you develop your ideas for this project and why did you choose your subject?
To come up with ideas, I just thought about emotionally personal situations. thats how I came up with kissing.
2. How did you demonstrate Emphasis in your work?
The pink lips are emphasized against the black background.
3. What medium did you decide to use and why did you choose this medium over the others? Discuss how it enhances your piece.
I used colored pencils because I liked how easy it was to blend them. It added texture to my piece.
We encourage risk taking in art. Risk taking can be as simple as trying a new technique or learning about a new medium to as complex as trying something totally new.
4.. Did you take any risks with this project? Explain.
I think my topic in general was a risk because its very personal and emotional. I don't think anyone else would have thought of it.
5. Of the 5 characteristics of great art (technique, concept, emotion, new, medium) which did you include in your art?
5. Of the 5 characteristics of great art (technique, concept, emotion, new, medium) which did you include in your art?
I used emotion obviously because kissing is very emotionally deep and sensual.

What's the Point
1. What where some of your solutions to What’s the Point?
For What's the Point, I also thought of pointy things like the Washington Monument and knives. I also looked at it a bit differently and thought of emotional things like depression and loneliness.
2. Which solution did you chose and why?
I chose to go down the emotional path and draw dying flowers. My idea was to have living flowers in the picture and show the dying flowers basically saying, "what's the point of living if we'll never be as beautiful as the living flowers."
3. How did you show contrast in your work?
I showed contrast by having a lot of values and not being afraid of the dark values. I tried to make the flowers stand out against the white background.
4. What medium did you decide to use? Why did you choose this medium over the others?
I used pencil because I thought I was the best at it. I like using stippling, but I knew I would be able to show better values with pencil.
5. What techniques did you use to create this work?
I used smooth shading in my piece. I really wanted the flowers to look soft and realistic.
6. Did you take any risks with this project?
I feel like I did take risks. The first time I drew out my picture, it looked completely different from my final project. I redid every flower at least three times to try to make it look the best it could.
7. What message are you conveying? How are you convey this message through the use of your images or use of art elements or principles?
The message I was thinking of when I came up with the idea was along the lines of, "what's the point in trying when there is so much better out there." It's not really a good message, and I don't believe that or think people should believe that, it's just what I thought of when hearing "What's the Point"
